Joseph Paladino [he/they] is a Rochester, New York based photographer, analog collagist, zine maker, screen printer, and radio disc jockey. He drinks iced coffee all year long (Northeast winters be damned), there’s usually ink on his hands, and always a camera (or two or three) in his messenger bag. Also, earplugs. You’ve probably seen him at the Bug Jar (or another venue around town) documenting the vibrant Rochester music scene. As an analog collagist, he explores a fictional and experimental universe of his own creation, with the finished works often mistaken as being actual photographs.
Work by Joseph, both photographic and collage based, has been featured in regional and nationally juried exhibitions at the Memorial Art Gallery (Rochester, New York), Flower City Arts Center (Rochester, New York), Main Street Arts (Clifton Springs, New York), and Behind the Glass (Rochester, New York). He has designed album artwork for both digital and physical release for Fox Forty Five and Agitated Earth, and one of his photographs will grace the back cover of the upcoming Bad Bloom 12” ep. In addition to countless local acts, he has also had the opportunity to photograph national touring acts such as The Gaslight Anthem, Rodeo Boys, The Wonder Years, The Menzingers, and Flogging Molly.
He is a frequent collaborator with The Sound Rochester, and their new podcast, Nights & Weekends, amplifying the local music scene and engaging with the performers and changemakers working to enrich Rochester’s cultural landscape. You can also catch him on the WAYO 104.3 FM airwaves every Monday morning (Cosmic Debris, 9AM) attempting to jam as much music and as little talk as possible into the hour.
In 2024, he founded Scavengers Tooth Press, a small publisher and distributor to release zines, including Tangental Slipstream, an ongoing series of collage zines. There are also plans for a series of location based photography zines and to continue collaborating with likeminded friends and artists.
